Who is responsible for your information
Walking the Chalk Path is a personal website operated by Holly Woolger, its creator. For UK data protection purposes, Holly Woolger is the data controller for personal information handled through this website.
You can contact Holly Woolger about privacy or exercise your data rights by sending a direct message to @walkingthechalkpath on Instagram. Please do not include sensitive health information in a direct message.
Information the site may collect
- Technical and security information: IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, dates and times, and security events recorded by the hosting service, WordPress and Wordfence.
- Search information: words entered into the site search. This is used only to return the results you request.
- Messages you choose to send: information included in a direct message or other communication. Instagram messages are also handled by Meta under its own privacy terms.
- Administration information: login and account details for authorised site administrators. Public visitor accounts and comments are not enabled.
The site does not currently use a contact form, mailing list, advertising or visitor analytics. It does not ask visitors to provide health information.
Why information is used
- To provide pages and search results that you request.
- To keep the website reliable and secure, investigate suspicious activity and prevent attacks.
- To respond when you choose to get in touch.
- To meet legal duties or respond to lawful requests where required.
The main lawful basis is legitimate interests: running, protecting and improving a small personal website and replying to genuine enquiries. Where information must be kept or disclosed by law, the basis is legal obligation. If consent is requested for a new optional feature, you may withdraw it at any time.
Who information may be shared with
Information is shared only where needed with service providers that help operate or protect the site, including the web host, WordPress services, Wordfence security and Smash Balloon for the Instagram feed. If you contact Holly through Instagram or follow an Instagram link, Meta handles information under its own privacy terms. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or needed to protect legal rights.
Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where UK data protection law applies, appropriate safeguards must be used by the relevant provider, such as an adequacy decision or approved contractual protections.
Instagram content and external links
The home page displays posts from @walkingthechalkpath through the Smash Balloon plugin. The current feed is rendered within this site and does not place an Instagram login frame on the page. Selecting a post or Instagram link takes you to Meta’s service, where Meta’s privacy and cookie terms apply.
How long information is kept
Routine technical and security records are kept only for as long as reasonably needed to protect the site, diagnose problems and meet legal duties. Records connected with a security incident may be kept longer while the incident is investigated. Messages are kept only while they are needed to answer the enquiry or maintain an appropriate record.
Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access your personal information, correct it, ask for it to be deleted, restrict its use, object to its use, receive a portable copy, and withdraw consent. Some rights have legal limits. You also have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
To make a request, contact Holly using the Instagram link above. Enough information may be requested to confirm your identity. A response will normally be provided within one month.

Children
This site may discuss experiences involving young people, but it is not designed to collect personal information from children. Please do not send information that identifies a child or describes their private circumstances.
