Walking the
Chalk Path

Thoughtful reflections from my journey as a humanistic counselling student—shared one step at a time.

Walking the path, one step at a time

Walking the Chalk Path is a journal of my experience as a humanistic counselling student—a place for thoughtful reflections on counselling, connection, nature and authentic living.

I am surrounded by chalk paths on the South Downs. They can be beautiful, but they aren’t always easy to walk. In dry weather, the way ahead may feel firm and clear. When the rain comes, that same ground can become slippery, muddy and difficult to navigate. Sometimes we lose our footing. Sometimes the path disappears around a bend, and we can’t yet see where it leads.

The right support doesn’t change the weather or remove every difficult part of the path. It can be more like a good pair of walking boots: helping us feel steadier, better supported and more able to continue along our own path.

My own path into counselling is still unfolding. I’m learning to take it one step at a time—remaining curious, noticing what grows along the way and accepting that I don’t need to see the whole route before taking the next step.

A little about me

Hello, I’m Holly

I’m a humanistic counselling student with a passion for supporting young people, neurodivergent people and their families, and making counselling more accessible within communities.

My route here has been shaped by leadership, volunteering, sailing, community work and parenthood. Each experience has deepened my belief in empathy, authenticity and the importance of feeling genuinely heard. Recognising how tricky it can be to navigate the messy business of being human!

I have completed Level 2 and Level 4 qualifications in Counselling Skills, and I am training on the BA Humanistic Counselling programme at the University of Chichester.
